Jennifer Redfearn worked with Meetai Productions and Hidden Village Films as a documentary field director, consulting producer, and additional camera person on the independent film Landfill Harmonic. She traveled to Paraguay for the project’s second trip to cast the film, conduct interviews and to film vérité scenes.
Landfill Harmonic follows the Recycled Orchestra of Cateura, a Paraguayan musical group that plays instruments made entirely out of garbage. When their story goes viral, the orchestra is catapulted into the global spotlight. Under the guidance of idealistic music director Favio Chavez, the orchestra must navigate a strange new world of arenas and sold-out concerts. However, when a natural disaster strikes their country, Favio must find a way to keep the orchestra intact and provide a source of hope for their town.
Landfill Harmonic premiered at SXSW where it won the Audience Award. It will open at Cinema Village in New York City on Friday, September 9, followed by the Laemmle Theaters in Los Angeles on Friday, September 23.
